The Double Crossing

I’ve just signed a contract with Paper Angel Press to publish my upper middle grade historical novel The Double Crossing. I’m excited to be able to introduce young readers to my fictional characters Hannah and David and their adventures, including stopping a Nazi spy mission. At the same time, readers will learn about the true history of over nine hundred Jewish men, women, and children who fled Nazi Germany in 1939, just before the start of WWII, on the ship St. Louis heading for Cuba. The passengers weren’t allowed to land, were refused entry into the United States and Canada, and finally had to go back to Europe where many later died in concentration camps.

The Double Crossing is about a history that people should know. Today, refugees are flooding into many countries, including the U.S., trying to escape violence, poverty, and the effects of climate change. Many are turned away, as were the Jewish passengers on the St. Louis.

  1. Hi Sylvia, Congratulations on your upcoming publication! Your good news prompted me to sit down and read the story, which I’ve just done all in one sitting. I must have been sitting at my computer since lunch. I loved reading it but I now have eye strain. But that’s because it’s a page-turner and a really good read. Very disturbing to be sure, but mingled with heroism, young love, and danger. I love how it’s mostly dialogue, the characters are vivid and genuine, and the afterword brings it even closer to home. I admire the research. Yay! Great job!! Katy πŸ€—πŸ‘πŸš’πŸ”πŸ‘
