Upcoming events

Here’s news from a couple of my local organizations.

Santa Cruz residents can learn about the Santa Cruz Welcoming Network this Thursday, April 28th by tuning in to our community radio station, KSQD 90.7 for Talk of the Bay with Rachel Goodman from five to six p.m. The Welcoming Network is an all-volunteer organization helping asylum seekers from a variety of countries access needed services such as housing, health care, and legal representation. I’ll be talking on the program together with one of our asylum seekers from El Salvador and another network volunteer. We’re expecting more refugees from Central America, Afghanistan, and Ukraine and would welcome more volunteers.

On Sunday, May 1, the Santa Cruz Peace Chorale will be singing during the May Day labor parade. The parade begins at noon at the town clock and will proceed down Pacific Avenue. We’ll be singing at the corner of Pacific and Cooper streets. This will be our first, and only, public appearance since the beginning of the pandemic, though we’ve been rehearsing this season, vaccinated and masked. We’re committed to continuing to sing for peace and justice, and to sharing the joy of song.
